Archipelago words, for MvM players
Archipelago is a multiworld randomizer. Several players, each in their own game, share one pool of items. When you reach a place in your game, you find an item. Often it belongs to somebody else. When they reach a place in theirs, they find one of yours.
Archipelago's own glossary and FAQ explain the general terms. This page covers what they mean here.
The words
| Word | In Archipelago | Here, in Mann vs Machine |
|---|---|---|
| Multiworld | One session shared by every player | The room your server joins |
| Slot | One player's game inside the multiworld | Your whole server. One slot, however many people play on it. |
| Seed | The file that describes one multiworld | What the Archipelago app generates from your options |
| Room | A hosted seed, with an address | What you upload the seed to at archipelago.gg |
| Check | A place you reach in your game | A wave you clear, a mission you clear, the first tank or giant of a mission |
| Item | Something you receive | A class, a weapon slot, a mission ticket, a weapon buff, a cash bundle, a trap |
| Goal | What ends your part of the multiworld | The hardest mission of the run, or a share of the missions |
| Hint | Asking where an item is | Typed in the game chat with !ap hint |
Two words collide with the game's own vocabulary:
- Slot. Archipelago's slot is your server. Mann vs Machine's slot is a weapon slot: primary, secondary, melee. When this book says "weapon slot", it means the weapon.
- Item. Archipelago's item is something the run gives you for good. Mann vs Machine's item is a pickup that vanishes at the end of the wave. This book says "item" in the Archipelago sense.
Two rules that surprise Archipelago players
- The server shares every unlock. A class the run finds opens for everybody on the server, at the same moment. There is no unlock per player.
- A check belongs to the team. The team clears the wave together, and that is the check. Who was on the server does not matter.
Two rules that surprise MvM players
- You start with almost nothing. One to four classes and one to three weapon slots, depending on the difficulty of the run. You find the rest.
- A locked weapon slot is empty. The server removes the weapon at every spawn and every resupply until the run finds that slot.
